Location

Arco degli Acetari, off the via del Pellegrino, close to the Campo de' Fiori market

Capacity

2 (can accommodate 4 or 6 people depending on circumstances)

Cost

From £290 for 2 nights to £490 per week (see below for details)

Our apartment is a basement in the Arco degli Acetari, very close to the Campo de' Fiori market. It is right in the middle of the old city in the loveliest of courtyards. In fact, most picture postcard sellers in Rome feature it together with pictures of the Roman Forum, the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain etc. But you won't find the address on a Rome map - it's too small for that. This means it's not inundated with tourists. It is a spacious studio apartment with a separate kitchen, and a bathroom. Whilst it is ideal for a couple, it can comfortably accommodate four friends, or even a family of up to six.

An 18th century brick pillar stands between the living room and the bedroom areas which are separated by curtains. The living room is attractive and spacious. Furnishings include a two-seater sofa and two single easy chairs.

The bedroom has a comfortable double bed. If there are more than two of you, the sofa and the single chairs in the living room open out as beds.

Beyond the bedroom is a well-equipped kitchen, with a gas cooker, fridge and all the basic equipment you would expect to find. There is sufficient cutlery and crockery to cater easily for 6 people. At the far end of the apartment, through a beautiful brick arch, is a shower-room and toilet. Throughout the apartment you will find sufficient cupboard space for your belongings.

The apartment is reached by a flight of 15 steps. As a basement natural light is limited. It is, however, well and creatively lit. Air conditioning is provided for the summer and heating for the winter. There is an internet wi-fi connection available for your use.

We feel it is important, at this stage, to point out that this apartment is part of 'old Rome' and so it doesn't have all the niceties you'd find in a modern apartment. A very small number of our visitors remark that there can be a slight 'damp' feel. This can be the case especially in hot months such as July or August when humidity levels can be high in Rome. The problem is counteracted to a large extent by the air-conditioning. If the quirkiness of this apartment doesn't seem right for you, we suggest you choose one of our more traditional apartments.

The charge for 2 nights rental is £290, 3 nights is £340, 4 nights is £390, 5 nights is £440 and 6 or 7 nights is £490. This includes bed linen (sheets, pillow-cases) for the double bed and towels for two people. As indicated the apartment is big enough for six people, but if you also use the sofa bed and/or single chair beds you will need to provide the additional bed linen/towels. However, there are sufficient blankets and pillows for 6 people. We normally take bookings from Tuesday to Tuesday, but can often be flexible. The apartment is available from 15.00 on the day of arrival and you are required to leave by 10.00 on your last day, though we can sometimes be flexible depending on other bookings. We give a reduction for longer lets. £100 is payable as a non-refundable deposit when the booking is confirmed. The remainder is required 2 months before your holiday begins.
