This is the place to get right away from it all and to enjoy peace, quiet and the countryside. Indeed, you are unlikely to meet any foreign tourists; it's the sort of place where Romans come for their summer holidays, whilst foreigners go to Tuscany!
This first floor apartment is situated in a tiny hamlet called Vallopara (620m above sea level) which is set in the hills north of Rieti. It rests above the beautiful plain which surrounds the Rieti area.
In the neighbouring hills there are four lovely shrines to St Francis, tracking his travels through the area. Each of them incorporates a small monastery and is set in the most amazing countryside. The nearby waterfalls at Marmore are spectacular. The apartment looks out towards the mountain of Terminillo (over 2200 meters). The Gran Sasso - a little further away is over 2900 meters.
The nearest village is Colli sul Velino (about a kilometer away) where you'll find a general store which will cater for all of your basic needs. There's also a bar, a chemist's and a restaurant. There's also a restaurant/pizzeria 4km distance. And, of course, the beautiful town of Rieti is only 17km distance (about 20 mins drive). You’d probably need a car – only one bus a day passes the hamlet! The nearest international airports are Rome (Fiumicino & Ciampino) - about an hour and a half drive away. (Ryanair also flies to Perugia from Stansted, which is also about an hour and a half away.) It is an ideal area for walking and there are some beautiful local villages, e.g. Labro some 4 km away (with a good restaurant). A couple of kilometres along the road and you’re in Umbria – with places such as Spoleto and Assisi (only 89 km away - about 1 hour 20 mins). From Rieti there are buses to Rome every 30 mins taking 1 hr 40 mins and costing only €3.30 each way. But we suggest you avail yourselves of one of our Rome apartments for such an experience!
As you can see from the photos, the windows of this apartment give the most wonderful views of mountains, valleys, and beautiful countryside.
The apartment is spacious and airy. The main living room has a large dining table for four. Leading off from the main room, you will find a well-equipped kitchen with a gas cooker with 4 gas rings and an oven, and a washing machine. At the end of the apartment there’s a delightful sitting room, which can be used to accommodate additional people on the double sofa bed.
